# America Goes to the Polls

Election Day has arrived, with a third of voters having already cast their ballots in what is one of the most unconventional, expensive, and closely contested presidential campaigns ever. Donald Trump dominated the Republican field to secure the party nomination. President Biden, who was trailing in the polls, stepped aside in July, paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris and attracting significant funding.

Typically vocal business leaders have remained quiet, partly due to concerns about potential repercussions if Trump were to win. In Silicon Valley, political divisions have become more pronounced. Among tech figures, Elon Musk has been particularly active, utilizing his financial resources, social media, and public appearances to support Trump. Speculation surrounds what benefits he might gain, such as a government role or increased government contracts.

One issue uniting major donors from both camps is a shared opposition to the Biden administration's stringent regulatory stance, with some openly calling for the removal of Lina Khan as chair of the F.T.C.

Keep abreast of the developments throughout the day, with deeper insights available post-poll closure.
